Bishop calls for practical and prayerful assistance for Bushfire Victims
The Catholic Bishop of Bathurst, Bishop Michael McKenna, has asked the people of the Diocese of Bathurst to pray for and practically assist the people of Coonabarabran and surrounding areas, during this current bushfire crisis.
The bushfires in the Warrumbungle region came with great speed and force. The extent of the devastation is only now becoming clear. Many families have been left without homes and there are dangerous days ahead.
“This weekend, I ask that, at all Masses, we pray for the people of Coonabarabran, Baradine and district; and be ready to respond with practical assistance. As I write, ways to donate and help are being set up”.
Bishop McKenna said “Once again, we thank God for the bravery and great competence of fire fighters and emergency workers; and for the generous support that is already at work in the local community. This is a time to remember that we are a Diocesan family and join in giving that support”.
Bishop McKenna plans to visit Coonabarabran this coming weekend.
Bishop McKenna has received a message from the Holy Father about the Coonabarabran fires. MORE>
