Diocesan Assembly Council meet
The Diocesan Assembly Council met with Bishop Michael McKenna at Matthew Quinn house on 8th December 2013. This was the first 'face-to-face' meeting of the newly established Council.
The Council's role is as an advisory body to the Bishop on the evaluation and possible implementation of ideas that have emerged from the Assembly process. It will also have the responsibility of advising him on the next steps in this process: including when, where and in what form another gathering might be held in two to three years' time.
Members of the Council are Peta Bischof (Cowra), Lucy Bryant (Mudgee), Rebecca Devitt (Orange), Geoff Mann (Dubbo), Peter Manning (Dunedoo-Coolah), Marianne Matthews (Mudgee), David Nelson (Bathurst), Charlie O'Mahony (Portland), Mark Williams (Wellington) and Nea Worrell (Coonabarabran). These people will act as a contact for each of the parishes in their region and be a conduit for the flow of information to and from the Bishop on these important matters.
In addition, Jenny Allen (Executive Director of Schools), Robert George (Director, Centacare Bathurst) and Tony Eviston (Vice-Chancellor) serve on the Council as ex-officio members. Lorna Nicholson (Ministries Co-ordinator) is the Executive Secretary of the Council.
The Council discussed the various initiatives taking place in parishes across the Diocese on the Word and Faith groups, as well as what is happening in regard to the 'Seven other steps' referred to in Bishop McKenna's Pastoral Letter "In the Beginning, the Word".
In light of the recent announcement of the Extraordinary Synod on the Family and Evangelisation, the Bishop engaged the group in particular discussion on marriages and families.
The Council will meet again early in the New Year.
