Saint Andre Visit 2012
In 2010, a French sister-school relationship was established between Collège/Lycée Saint André in Colmar France and MacKillop College Bathurst. We were delighted to welcome a large contingent from St André for the second time last week, indeed a highlight for our French program in 2012.

Vive la France!

Catholic Schools Debating Association (CSDA) State Finals
The MacKIllop College debaters enjoyed wonderful success at this year's Catholic Schools Debating Association (CSDA) State Finals winning the Year 7 Championship for the fourth time since 2005 and being runners up in the Senior Division for the second year running. MacKillop qualified for the Country Championships in five divisions, a feat unequalled by any regional Catholic School in New South Wales.

Year 10 Canberra excursion
The Year 10 students are to be congratulated on a successful History Excursion to Canberra.

The highlights for the excursion included a moving visit to the Australian War Memorial followed by a most entertaining time at Parliament House. After an informative tour the girls were given the opportunity to attend Question Time in the both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

We are grateful to be able to have the opportunity to provide our students with this valuable experience in order to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the history.

The trip was made possible in part by the subsidy provided by the Federal Government PACER program.

Graduation Mass
At the end of Term 3 the MacKillop College community gathered together in celebration with the Graduating class of 2012, at their Graduation Mass, at the Cathedral of Saints Michael and John in Bathurst. This special occasion was celebrated with the students, their parents and the College community before the commencement of their Higher School Certificate Exams. We often talk about the MacKillop Community as a family and this is one of these times where the parallels are quite clear. The parents and teachers of our Year 12 students have watched them grow and mature as they journeyed through school and we are hoping that the lessons they have been taught, at home and at school, will stand them in good stead as they commence the next stage of their life's journey.

Tournament of Minds Update
On Saturday 8 September, 21 MacKillop girls travelled to Sydney for the TOM - Tournament of Minds State Final. Three MacKillop teams participated in this year’s final – each competed against teams from the 10 other areas of NSW, including three Sydney regions in three of the four disciplines - Social Sciences, Maths/ Engineering and Applied Technology.
The MacKillop Applied Technology Team received ‘Honours’, placing them in the top three for NSW. MacKillop’s Social Sciences team also received ‘Honours’. The Maths Engineering did not receive a place, but everyone was extremely proud of them for doing so well.
Tournament Of Minds is a great way to make new friends. In TOM, there is something new, different and exciting around every corner and it gets you to think outside the square.

We have enjoyed the company of the Ohtani High representatives for a number of years and are always excited to see them visit our College.  The true value of this most important relationship between the two schools was clearly evident during the visit by Ohtani, a special connection to treasure for many years to come!
