Cathedral Restoration Appeal Launch - June 2012

Appeal launch to secure Cathedral’s future

On Friday 29th June, Bishop Micahel McKenna launched a public appeal for assistance to secure the long term future of one of NSW’s iconic heritage buildings, as the Church begins its ambitious project to restore the ageing Cathedral of St Michael and St John.

The Bishop formally announced plans to raise the $3 million needed to complete the heritage restoration project to be staged over the next four years.

The Bishop concelebrated Mass with several of the priests in the Cathedral - it was the Solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul and also the Solemnity of the Dedication of the Cathedral (1865). Around 200 people attended Mass and afterwards moved to the new Cathedral School Hall for the official Launch.
