The Australian Group of the Catholic Dioceses of Vinh and Ha Tinh in Sydney celebrated their 10th Anniversary recently at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Fairfield. Originally founded in 2014 with just 15-20 members, this vibrant community has now grown to include more than 200 members, reflecting the strong bonds and shared faith that unite them.
The connection between the Dioceses of Vinh and Bathurst is a result of the presence of several priests in the Bathurst Diocese who originally hail from the Vinh Diocese. These men have brought with them the rich traditions and strong faith of their home diocese, significantly contributing to the spiritual life of Bathurst. Their journey from Vinh to Bathurst underscores the global nature of the Catholic Church and the shared mission that unites dioceses across the world. These priests not only serve as spiritual leaders within Bathurst but also as living links to the community in Vinh, fostering a unique and enduring bond between the two dioceses.
The event began with a lunch in the parish hall, where members reflected on their decade-long journey together. The highlight of the day was a beautiful Mass at 4:15 pm, celebrated in collaboration with the Vietnamese Community of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish.
Bishop Michael McKenna, Bishop of Bathurst, was the main celebrant at the Mass. He was joined by a number of priests and deacons with strong ties to the community, including Fathers Anh Nguyen, Hoan Nguyen, Huong Vu, and Deacon Thang Ha, From the Bathurst Diocese were Frs Dong Nguyen, Diep Nguyen, Thao Nguyen, Nam Le, Cong Hoang and Duong Ha.
During his homily, Fr. Anh Nguyen encouraged the congregation, particularly members of the Vinh and Ha Tinh community, to give thanks to God and keep Him at the heart of their lives and community. “All the members of the community need to walk together and journey together with one another and with God,” he reminded them.

Fr. Anh also emphasised the importance of fellowship and unity, which he believes are key to the community’s continued growth and strength. In his remarks at the end of Mass, Bishop McKenna thanked the Vinh and Ha Tinh community, reminding them that “the love, friendship, and unity among the members of the community make the presence of Jesus. Jesus is always present with all of you in your community.”
The celebration continued with a lively reception at the Crystal Palace restaurant in Canley High, where the community enjoyed performances of singing, dancing, and drama by its members and guests. A particularly memorable moment was the gratitude and cake-cutting ceremony, where the community gave thanks to those who have supported and journeyed with them over the past ten years, marking this special 10th Anniversary.
