ACN launches appeal for Lebanon

Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Australia has launched a national emergency appeal for Lebanon, requesting prayers for victims and their families, and raising funds in the wake of the deadly explosion in Beirut on 4th August, which has killed at least 135 people, injured 5000 and decimated the capital city. The funds raised will be used to support the most urgent needs in Lebanon (such as emergency food packages) but they will also respond to the physical and spiritual needs that arise in the coming weeks, months and years.

The funds will target poor families worst affected by the blast which devastated the port area of the Lebanese capital when 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse exploded. An emergency help of AUD $412,000 is being rushed to Beirut from ACN International in order to immediately support the people.

More information is available on the ACN website: Online donations to the appeal may also be made at the bottom of that webpage.

Prayer for Lebanon

O Lord, infinitely holy and glorified in your saints,
you inspired the holy monk and hermit Saint Charbel to follow Christ
and you gave him the strength to detach himself from the world
in order to make the monastic virtues triumph in his hermitage.

We implore you to pour down your grace and healing for Lebanon.

God Almighty, who manifested the power of Saint Charbel's intercession by various miracles and favours,
grant us through his intercession the ability to be generous in prayer and action,
so that together we can rebuild the Churches and homes that were destroyed in the explosion
and to heal the broken hearts of those who have lost their loved ones and their livelihoods.

St. Charbel Makhlouf, pray for us.
