Plenary Council First Assembly 3rd-10th October 2021

Those representing the Diocese of Bathurst at the upcoming Plenary Council of Australia are currently in preparation for the First Assembly, which will begin on Monday 4th October, online due to Covid restrictions.

Bishop McKenna, Fathers Paul Devitt VG and Greg Kennedy EV, along with Ms Hayley Farrugia and Messrs Michael Gibbons and Matthew Brown, are currently readying themselves for the week-long online gathering. Mrs Jenny Allen from our Diocese will act as a session facilitator and Deacon Josh Clayton will have a tech support role during the Assembly.

As members cannot be togeher for the Opening Mass, Bishop McKenna will join the other Bishops around the country who will celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit in their own cathedrals on Sunday 3rd October. This will be livestreamed on our Diocesan Facebook page and YouTube channel at 10.00am and the Bishop invites you to join him online as he offers Mass this day.

Starting with the opening plenary session on Monday, October 4, parts of the morning session at which all 278 Plenary Council members gather online will be livestreamed. The livestream will open at 11am AEDT each day and run for about 75 minutes, except on Thursday, October 7 – a day when most of program will be offline.

“These livestreams will allow the People of God to stay connected with the work of the Plenary Council, including through the sharing of the fruits of discernment,” Lana Turvey-Collins, the Plenary Council facilitator, said.
