SRE catechists from across the Diocese of Bathurst gathered at the Cathedral of St Michael and St John on Sunday 19 July for the 10.00 am Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael McKenna.

The occasion provided an opportunity to recognise and give thanks for the important ministry of catechists, who help children and young people encounter Jesus through Special Religious Education in public schools.

At the conclusion of Mass, Bishop McKenna offered a special blessing for the catechists and their ministry. The celebration continued with morning tea, bringing together catechists from across the Diocese in gratitude for their generous service.

Being an SRE catechist can change lives. Through their ministry, children and young people can hear the message of Jesus Christ in an environment where they may not otherwise have the opportunity.

There are many ways to support this life-giving ministry. It may begin by praying for our catechists, encouraging someone who may be suited to the role, or considering becoming an SRE catechist yourself.
