The Catholic Diocese of Bathurst invites the faithful to participate in Red Wednesday on 19 November 2025, a global initiative to stand in solidarity and pray for Christians who suffer persecution for their faith.
Red Wednesday is an initiative of the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), which is dedicated to the pastoral and spiritual support of suffering and persecuted Christians. This day shines a light on the plight of our sisters and brothers in Christ who are unable to practise their faith freely.
Our Cathedral of St Michael and St John in Bathurst will be illuminated red for the event. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 5.00pm and will be followed by Mass. After the sun sets, the Cathedral’s exterior will be illuminated in red. This action uses the colour red to symbolise the blood shed by martyrs for their love of Christ.
All are welcome to join this important demonstration of prayer and awareness, uniting the Diocese of Bathurst with the suffering Church throughout the world.
