Representatives from churches across New South Wales gathered on Friday 22 May 2026 for the New South Wales Ecumenical Council service and fundraising dinner, celebrating Christian unity, friendship and shared mission.

Deacon Josh Clayton and Anna Clayton attended as representatives of the Catholic Diocese of Bathurst, which is a signatory and member church of the NSW Ecumenical Council.

Held during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the evening brought together church leaders and members from many Christian traditions. Guests heard from the General Secretary of the NSW Ecumenical Council, Reverend Dr Rod Benson, the President of the Council, Reverend Carmel Sheraton, Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv, Bishop of Parramatta, Mother Kathryn Bellhouse, Ms Alison Ryan and Reverend Pablo Nunez, who is soon to become Moderator of the Uniting Church.

Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on the importance of dialogue, co-operation and Christian witness in today’s world. The gathering highlighted the ongoing work of the NSW Ecumenical Council in fostering unity, advocacy and collaboration between member churches across the state.

For the Diocese of Bathurst, the evening was a valuable reminder that ecumenical relationships continue to grow through prayer, friendship and shared service.
