ALPHA

“I think everybody should get rich and famous and have everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that that’s not the answer.” (Jim Carrey)

Is there more to life than this?

Do you have big questions about the meaning of life? ALPHA is for you! ALPHA is designed with the objective of creating an environment where participants are given the opportunity to discuss and explore the meaning of life in a very comfortable way.

You might have been “walking alone” in this search for meaning for a long time, but at ALPHA, you will discover that this journey is not supposed to be alone. Many others share your search, and ALPHA is designed to accompany you, and we will walk with you in our common search for the meaning of life.

Our parish would like to invite you to join ALPHA!

Our next season of ALPHA commences on 5 February 2025 with ALPHA Party

Get a taste of what Alpha is about. Join us at St Mary’s Church gathering space, 6pm Wednesday 5 February 2025. If you can’t make it to the party, you are more than welcome to join us any week (or all weeks) afterwards.

Sycamore

Sycamore is an informal course about the Catholic faith and its relevance for life today. It gives you space to meet other people, share ideas, explore your beliefs, and think about questions that really matter.

Sycamore will take place on Tuesday evenings beginning on 15 October, 7:00pm at St Mary’s Church.

Come for the Film …

Each session involves a short, thought-provoking film about the big questions of life and the central beliefs of the Christian faith. The films are beautifully produced in locations around the UK. They capture the beauty of the English countryside, the energy and excitement of the cities, and the seagulls of Brighton beach!

Come for the Conversation …

At a typical Sycamore session, conversation just happens! Sycamore is an opportunity to meet other people, share ideas, explore your beliefs, and think about questions that really matter. Everyone is welcome. There’s a real sense of community and a spirit of friendship. There’s no pressure and no commitment. If you are shy, you can take a back seat. If you are full of ideas and questions, this is a space to share them. You can be yourself without any fear of being judged.

Come for the snacks …

Sycamore begins with tea/coffee and some snacks! Sycamore is a chance to relax with others with some food or a cuppa – it’s not just about deep discussions. For once, you can stop rushing, and just enjoy sitting down for some good food and some good conversation.

Come for the adventure …

Yes, it’s a risk, stepping into the unknown. Most of us hate uncertainty and like to stay in our own routines. But why not take a risk and try something new? “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”. There are so few opportunities to meet new people, to step back from the rush of life, and to make space to think and talk.

Sycamore will take place on Tuesday evenings beginning on 15 October We would love to welcome you.
