On Sunday the 4 December, 2022 St Dominic’s Church Kandos community celebrated a trilogy of sorts: an anointing Mass, St Dominic’s Church 100 years and a farewell to Fr Thao.

A beautiful Mass was held with Fr Owen, Fr Thao and Deacon Charles concelebrated  Mass. There were also three seminarians in attendance playing the guitar and singing. The last hymn was in Vietnamese in recognition of our wonderful Vietnamese Catholic community. the song was so moving that many of us had tears and goosebumps at the end.

Fr Owen thanked Fr Thao, and on behalf of the parishioners wished him well for his future.  Fr Thao responded with many thanks to everyone for their friendship and support. Fr Thao was then presented with a gift from Kerry Morrissey who again thanked Fr Thao on behalf of the parishioners. Fr Owen also spoke on St Dominic’s 100 years and invited Kevin Miller to speak on his memories of St Dominic’s Church before the existing school was built. This was a time when school lessons were held in the Church throughout the week then Mass was held on Sundays. Lyn Edwards had a wonderful memorabilia display around the hall for all to enjoy. A delicious Christmas lunch was served in the Church Hall with some tasty dishes made by our Vietnamese community. Lyn Edwards and Kevin Miller cut the ‘100-year celebration’ birthday cake, which was made and donated by the Kandos Bakery. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Thank you to all who contributed to the day, which made the celebrations a wonderful success.
