On Wednesday 18th October Year 11 students at St Matthews Catholic School Mudgee were joined by Sisters of Mercy and other guests to celebrate Mass. It was a special occasion during which a new processional cross, kindly donated in memory of Sr Mary Clement RSM, was blessed. Sr Clem was a Mudgee local who gave many years of service to Catholic Education and the local Mudgee community.
It was fitting to have the Sisters join the school for this Mass as it was the first time the school had celebrated Eucharist around the new altar which had recently made its way to Mudgee from Mount Street in Bathurst. Fittingly, the students present were also the final school group to visit Rahamim prior to its closing, providing a lovely connection between the altar’s previous home and its new one at St Matthews. Thank you to Fr Greg Cooney for presiding over this wonderful celebration.
Following Mass, staff and students joined the Sisters for morning tea before they were taken on a tour of the new secondary campus. It was a wonderful day and provided St Matthews with the opportunity to show gratitude for the work of these Sisters in paving the way, and demonstrate the school’s commitment to living the Mercy charism today.
