Father James Kane RIP

Father James Kane, who served faithfully as a priest of the Diocese of Bathurst for 63 years, died on 9th November 2022.

Father Kane ministered as an Assistant Priest in East Orange, Lithgow and Coonamble. He was Administrator or Parish Priest in Cowra, Mendooran, Rockley, St Joseph’s Orange, Coonabarabran, Oberon, Wellington, Gilgandra and Molong.

He was instrumental in many important works, including the Catholic Young Men’s Society (CYMS); the Catholic Development Fund; and the foundation of James Sheahan Catholic High School.

After his retirement in 2008, his devoted ministry continued to enrich the lives of many. He was a Spirit-filled man of deep Christian faith, strong intellect and genuine love for people.

Just a few days before he died, I spent time with James in conversation and prayer; and he was as ready as anyone I’ve known to meet God face to face.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
