This year, in our Lectionary on Sundays, we are in Year B. Our focus is primarily on the Gospel of Mark, complemented by significant passages from the Gospel of John. Notably, during this period, we delve deeply into John chapter 6, which provides profound insights into the mystery of the Eucharist.

Bishop McKenna’s pastoral letter, “Bread Come Down from Heaven” from 2021 offers a reflection on this mystery and gift of the Eucharist. In the letter, Bishop McKenna reminds us of Jesus’ words: “I am the living bread come down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” (Jn 6:51).

At this time, it is a good opportunity to re-read Bishop McKenna’s pastoral letter, “Bread Come Down from Heaven.” Let it inspire you to draw closer to Jesus, the Bread of Life, and to participate more fully in the celebration of the Eucharist.
