The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (Creation Day) is celebrated on September 1.

Pope Francis’ message for the 2023 World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation focuses on the theme, “Let Justice and Peace Flow”, inspired by the words of the prophet Amos: “Let justice flow on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.”

In it, he says people must end the “senseless war against creation” and help victims of environmental and climate injustice. “We must do this by resolving to transform our hearts, our lifestyles and the public policies ruling our societies”.

The Pope talks about drought – something well-known to us in Australia – and writes says we can all contribute to change for good by “resolving to transform our hearts, our lifestyles, and the public policies ruling our societies.”

This day will also mark the beginning of the Season of Creation, which will continue until October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

For a number of years major Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican organisations have joined to encourage the 2.2 billion Christians worldwide to pray and act on ecological issues.
