Bishop Michael McKenna will celebrate
a Mass of Christian Burial for Father George Wilkins
in St Patrick’s Church, Wellington, at 12.00pm on Tuesday 23rd April 2024.
This will be followed by interment in the old section of
Wellington cemetery.

Father George Wilkins, known as Jim, has died in Bathurst at the age of 94, after more than 52 years of priestly service in our Diocese.

He was born on 1st July 1929 in the parish of Wellington NSW and baptised in St Patrick’s Church there. He was educated at St Mary’s School, St Ignatius College, Riverview and JohnXXIII Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts USA.

Father Jim was ordained by the late Bishop of Bathurst A.R.E. Thomas, in Boston, on 6th May 1971.

He served as Assistant Priest in Orange, 1971; Coonamble 1972-81; Parish Priest of Gulargambone 1982; Assistant Priest Mudgee 1983; Chaplain to Mitchell College 1984-88; and Chaplain to Custodial Institutions in the Diocese 1988-2004.
