A message from Bishop McKenna for Good Shepherd Sunday 2019
Dear Friends in Christ,
Last year, the Pastoral Letter that I sent you was called “Only A Priest”. In the context of the common share that all the Faithful have in the Priesthood of Christ, I wrote about the unique and indispensable ministry of ordained priests.
The Church needs priests for the Mass and sacraments; and for leading and teaching in the way of the Apostles, lest we become just another organisation or club, forgetting who Christ calls us to be.
Today, I ask you to pray for your priests and to support them in practical ways. Their material needs depend upon the contributions of the people they serve.
I also ask you to pray for our eight seminarians, who are at various stages of the journey to ordination. God willing, by the time Good Shepherd Sunday comes around next year, we may have two new priests.
The cost of educating our priests is a responsibility for everyone: and I ask you to consider prayerfully your donation to this annual appeal.
Yours in Christ,
Bishop of Bathurst
